John Nasshan invites you to join "Quintessence" on its journey, as they seek the next level… each time they perform. John Nasshan's Quintessence Biography Born into a family of musicians, my "path" led me directly into music. Music is not chosen, Music chooses you… the Drums choose you. I represent a family that has three generations of drummer/percussionists. Even in my early years, I felt compelled to play Music, to play Drums. I have very few childhood memories that do not involve Music and Jazz. My grandfather; percussionist, composer, and arranger Bobby Christian, had a big band that rehearsed in our living room every Sunday afternoon. I have vivid memories of sitting in front of his roaring band, at age five, and deciding that I would be a Jazz Drummer. At age 15, I became the drummer with the Bobby Christian Big Band, from the first night in the "driver's seat" of a Jazz Band, I knew I was home! Since settling in Las Vegas, I have been fortunate to be called upon to perform in many venues, and at festivals with some of the greatest jazz artists in the music industry. The artists that have welcomed me to their stage as drummer include Jack Jones, Joe Williams, Buddy Greco, Nancy Wilson, Sonny Stitt, Don Menza, Pete Christlieb, Scott Hamilton, Von Freeman, Clint Holmes, Judy Roberts, and Petula Clark. After a history of playing behind great artists, I made the decision to pursue an idea… a concept. In looking, and listening around the music world, I found that we need more Music ensembles that really exhibit a true love for the heart and soul of straight ahead Jazz, and especially Be Bop. My greatest passion is the form of Jazz called "Be Bop", and my band "Quintessence" is an Acoustic Be Bop Quintet in the truest sense. My band is five musicians bound together by a commonality of soul and purpose… to keep Acoustic Be Bop alive and swingin! If life truly is a journey… I must be in the best part of it.
